Challenge

In summer 2020, Carthage College planned a departmental restructuring that threatened the jobs of both new and tenured professors, bypassing tenure protections. Students organized protests to oppose this, and needed a fast, impactful way to share their message.

Solution

I captured key moments from the student protests, speeches, and the president's response. Photos were taken, edited and distributed on the same day to a group of 100+ people, amplifying the movement's reach.

Results

A striking photo of President Swallow, separated from protesters by a wrought-iron fence, became widely shared on social media. This caught the attention of local and state-level media, raising public awareness and sparking articles in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the town's newspaper.
